De namen uitgelegd<\/h2>\n

\u2022 Hummus:<\/strong> Dit is de meest bekende en gebruikte spelling in vele talen, mede door globalisering en de populariteit van de dip als onderdeel van gezonde voeding.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Houmous:<\/strong> Deze variant wordt vaak in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Frankrijk gebruikt en wordt meestal uitgesproken alsof het klinkt als “hoemmus”.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Hoemoes:<\/strong> Een minder gebruikelijke spelling is hoemoes<\/a>, die vooral in Nederland wordt gebruikt.<\/p>\n

Oorsprong van de naam<\/strong><\/h2>\n

De naam hummus<\/a><\/strong> komt uit het Arabisch (\u062d\u064f\u0645\u064f\u0651\u0635), dat ‘kikkererwtenpuree’ betekent. In het Hebreeuws betekent “hummus”<\/strong> niet alleen “puree”, maar ook “kikkererwt”<\/strong>. Het woord wordt gebruikt om de kikkererwt zelf aan te duiden, en de spread heet dus naar de hoofdingredi\u00ebnt: kikkererwten.<\/p>\n

De spread zelf heeft haar oorsprong in het Midden-Oosten en de Levant, waar het al eeuwenlang op tafel staat. De Arabische en Turkse culturen hebben het gerecht door de eeuwen heen verfijnd en verspreid, waardoor het nu wereldwijd populair is geworden, vooral als veganistische bron van eiwitten.<\/p>\n
